Businesses and Shops
A list of the businesses in operation on Cape Beryl, along with their inventories, pricing, personnel, and whether or not they may be hiring.
If your character is making a purchase of note - a custom order from one of the local craftspeople, a tool upgrade, or a new building for a farm, for example - please comment to the relevant shop on this post for the sake of any tracking, plotting, or offering directions that it may warrant!
If your character is starting a business of their own, splendid! Just type the business name into the subject line of a comment and fill in the form below. Once your business is approved, it's official, and you may come back to it to update inventory, employees, and so on any time.

THE AERIE INN
The Aerie Inn
Owner: Cliff
Staff: Kanji, Jane (Cooks)
Open: Every day, 8:00 A.M.-10:00 P.M.
Located on the side of the road just where Bower Village begins. The Aerie Inn features two broad floors, a wine cellar, and a loft, where Cliff lives with pet falcons. The guest rooms are all on the second floor - there are eight of them, symmetrically-arranged, each with two beds.
Behind the vineyard are carefully-cultivated grape vines and apple trees, along with a pair of chickens and a goat. Cliff, a practiced cook and brewer by hobby, uses their products fantastically for inn patrons - with the quietness of the town, the inn in fact makes most of its profit by exporting wine and goat cheese and by serving as Bower Village's de facto restaurant.
Come up to the bar counter, get your room key, then order a glass of wine and a meal and enjoy the evening around the tables with the rest of the house.
Prices:
- Room - 500G per night. Meals are complementary!
- Meal - Prices range from 200-600G. Served at all times of the day and include soups, salads, typical breakfast fare, bread, rice dishes, etc. - well-loved in town is Cliff's curry rice at 600G.
- Wine - Available by the glass after noon and by the bottle at all times of the day. 200G per glass and 1200G per bottle. It's really quite good, rest assured.
- Apple Cider - Available by the glass after noon and by the bottle all times of the day, after the Pumpkin Festival through Winter. It is hard cider! 300G per glass and 1500G per bottle. Also of a high and loving quality.
Help Wanted!
Hiring:
- Cook. Cliff will pay anyone interested 400G per shift (shifts are divided as before 11:00 A.M., 11:00 A.M.-4:00 P.M., and 4:00 P.M. - a character may make 1200G a day by assisting with breakfast, lunch, and dinner!) for their help in the Aerie Inn's kitchen and show anyone willing to learn basic cooking technique and his recipes on the job - or maybe if you're already a skilled cook, you can impress him with a few of your own. Days are negotiable.
- Housekeeping to tidy rooms, lend a hand in washing dishes, etc. Compensation is 1000G per day.
BLACKSMITH SAIBARA
Blacksmith Saibara
Owner: Saibara
Staff: Ace, Zed (Apprentice)
Open: Thursday through Tuesday (closed Wednesday), 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Master blacksmith Saibara has had much practice working with the ores, metals, and stones found in Mt. Throne, and in putting together basic tools and even jewelry. He can't put together a custom item or weapon or work with rune quite as readily, but provided with references or plans, nothing is impossible for him to forge.
However, regardless of his still-solid strength and skill, his age makes it a bit difficult for him to gather materials to work with on his own - if you can provide your own, the work you request will cost you both much less; if you can't, he'll have to charge you extra for what he orders from Zeke.
He is also able to upgrade and augment tools you may already have, including ones that he himself did not make, such as fishing rods from Salt & Sky.
Once you've made your order, he'll have it forged for you in two days.
Prices:
- Iron Tool (Hammer, Axe, Sickle, Hoe) - 1200G OR 800G and 2 chunks Iron.
- Copper Tool - Iron Tool and 1800G OR Iron Tool, 1000G, and 2 chunks Copper.
- Silver Tool - Copper Tool and 2000G OR Copper Tool, 1200G, and 2 chunks Silver.
- Gold Tool - Silver Tool and 2200G OR Silver Tool, 1400G, and 2 chunks Gold.
- Mythril Tool - Gold Tool and 2600G OR Gold Tool, 1600G, and 2 chunks Mythril.
Tool prices are the same as those for Small Weapons, such as daggers, hatchets, and short bows.
- Iron Weapon - 1600G OR 1000G and 3 chunks Iron.
- Copper Weapon - Iron Weapon and 1900G OR Iron Weapon, 1300G and 3 chunks Copper.
- Silver Weapon - Copper Weapon and 2200G OR Copper Weapon, 1600G and 3 chunks Silver.
- Gold Weapon - Silver Weapon and 2500G OR Silver Weapon, 1900G and 3 chunks Gold.
- Mythril Weapon - Gold Weapon and 2800G OR Gold Weapon, 2200G and 3 chunks Mythril.
- Defensive Gear (Helmet, Gloves, Shoulder and Elbow Plates, Chest Plate, Leg Guards, Boots) - 700G OR 300G and 2 chunks Iron per piece. Recommended to anyone who might be venturing into the less-secure zones of the wilderness - covers just enough to protect everything important without hindering movement.
- Miner's Gear - 1000G OR 500G, 1 chunk Iron, and 1 chunk Copper. Sturdier and with greater integrity than basic armor.
- Watchman's Gear - 1400G OR 700G, 1 chunk Iron, and 1 chunk Silver. Provides reliable protection from most any hazard you're liable to run into on Cape Beryl.
- Silver Jewelry (Bracelet, Simple Brooch, Necklace, Choker, Earrings) - 800G OR 400G and 1 chunk Silver a piece.
- Gold Jewelry - 1000G OR 500G and 1 chunk Gold a piece.
Saibara will also make any piece of jewelry with a gemstone provided by you for no additional charge.
- Custom Orders (through found or self-designed plans and images, etc.) - Varying. If little detail is provided, Saibara will charge you 500G to work it out, a process which could take up to three days. Beyond that, if the item you request is similar enough to one he can already make, that item's price will be the base price with an additional 100G added for each unit of unique components. He will require you to provide all such unique components yourself. For example, you request a sword just like the one you used at home but aren't sure what it should be made out of, you can pay Saibara 500G and information to figure it out. After a couple of days, he decides that he can use a Silver Sword base with one chunk of Adamantite and one unit of generic rune. His price for forging the sword will be 2400G, one chunk Adamantite, and one unit Plain Rune OR 1800G, three chunks Silver, one chunk Adamantite, and one unit Plain Rune.
Help Wanted!
Hiring:
- Although Saibara has long been looking for just one solid apprentice to focus on and - at least for now - seems to have found one in Ace, he can be convinced to take on a second. The blacksmith isn't looking for a part-time hand or offering charity to wanderers or strays on the Cape, but a mutual investment; he'll pay 200G per hour of training, which won't be consistent from day to day, to begin with out of politeness. If you have the aptitude and willingness to commit, however, expect work as Saibara's protégé to reward you quite well eventually.
GOTZ COMPANY CARPENTRY
Gotz Company Carpentry
Owner: Gotz
Staff: Bo, Lorenzo (Apprentices)
Open: Monday through Thursday, 12:00 P.M.-4:00 P.M.
The Gotz Company carpenters are three busy men, hence the hours - when they're closed, they'll likely either be in the woods gather lumber; engaged in commissioned construction, woodwork, and repairs; or in the back of or behind the workshop as Gotz trains his two young apprentices.
Place an order for work and Gotz will give you both the construction fees and material fees - or requirements. Like Saibara, Gotz and Company will charge you a little extra for any materials you can't provide yourself. If it's a piece of artisan furniture or a small piece such as a doghouse you're after, they'll probably have it ready for you to pick up the next day; construction and repairs, meanwhile, they'll work to get done as quickly as they can from the break of dawn to noon and from closing time to dark until it's done.
Prices:
- Small House - 55000G OR 45000G, 100 pieces Lumber, and 50 pieces Material Stone. A humble one-story house with a small bathroom with a toilet and shower head, a closet-sized kitchen open to a dining room space, and a living room. You can tuck your bed into the corner.

- Shelf - 1300G OR 1150G and 5 pieces Lumber (Plain); 1750G OR 1250G and 5 pieces Black or White Lumber (Black or White)
- Closet - 1600G OR 1300G and 6 pieces Lumber (Plain); 2100G OR 1500G and 6 pieces Black or White Lumber (Black or White)

- Repairs vary depending on severity and difficulty to fix.

BOWER VILLAGE GENERAL HEALTH
Bower Village General Health
Owner: Trent
Staff: Deuce (Clerk/Intern)
Open: Every day, 8:00 A.M.-4:00 P.M.
Bower Village is a healthy place, which Dr. Trent knows and is glad for. It doesn't mean he holds his job in any less high esteem - or sees any reason to take a day off. Outside of the clinic-slash-pharmacy's walk-in hours, he considers himself to be on-call, and can be convinced to head back to the workplace to perform a checkup or fetch a bottle of medicine. The only time a person may need to ask more than once for his services as a doctor is after he's gone home at night to research medicinal studies and healing magic out of the latest relevant library books - he is in fact one of the few people on the Cape to dabble in magic and rune.
Prices:
- Physical Examination - 500G.
- Bodigizer - 400G per dose. Boosts energy and reduces fatigue and pain.
- Bodigizer XL - 550G per dose. Twice as potent as basic Bodigizer.
- Cold Medicine - 250G per dose. A dose per day takes the edge off of common cold symptoms such as sore throat, sore eyes, and congestion.
- Remedy - 150G per dose. The first rune-mixed potion that Trent approved for sale in the pharmacy, a dose will dispel any common malevolent magic effect, such as monster-induced paralysis.
- Stay Awake - 1100G per dose. Another pharmacy-mixed and -sold potion. Down a bottle to completely eliminate your need for one night's worth of sleep with absolutely no side effects (although Trent still wouldn't recommend drinking it for two or more nights in a row) - the doctor would know, as it's a favorite of his.
Help Wanted!
Hiring:
- Clerks to work negotiable hours and days. Trent will pay 180G an hour for a possible maximum of 1080G per day.
- A pharmaceutical and/or apothecary intern - one to assist in mixing up medicines and potions to be sold in the pharmacy, and hopefully in the future provide help in potionmaking research, projects, and experiments. Trainees will unfortunately not be paid until they prove they can mix a medicine or potion without complete guidance - once they prove their skill, however, Trent will be all too happy and eager to reward them with 1500G per day.
ALL AND NOTHING
All and Nothing
Owner: Louis
Staff: Joan (caretaker)
Open: Sunday through Friday, 9:00 A.M.-4:00 P.M.
Louis's shop is so named because, for the most part, he'll carry a bit of everything, and no one kind of thing in particular. Louis does have quite a few mainstay items over a few different categories, but he enjoys tinkering in the back room to create new items to offer and build up from. He may even pay you for any old or unneeded items you bring him for recycling!
Prices:
- Glass Vase - 500G. A pretty vase made of blue glass.
- Wall Clock - 600G. A wooden hanging clock.
- Electric Lantern - 750G. A handheld lantern with a rechargeable power source. Plug it into the wall at home overnight so it'll last for a trip into the mines or woods.
- Cookware Set - 1500G. A set of mixing implements and sturdy pots and pans of varying sizes.
- Mixer - 600G. A blender.
- Seed Maker - 10000G OR 7500G, 5 pieces Iron, and 2 pieces Adamantite. Extracts and dispenses seeds from fully-grown plants, 2 packets worth per unit inserted. It's costly, yes, but rest assured, farmers, it'll save you its worth someday.
Offering:
- Louis will buy your items at most times for three quarters of their original value - you can sell him a 1200G Iron Tool bought from Saibara for 900G. Occasionally, he may post requests to the bulletin board sending characters on "quests" for more elusive items in exchange for more proper reward.
FINE EYE TAILOR
Fine Eye Tailor
Owner: Elena
Open: Tuesday through Friday and Sunday, 10:00 A.M.-3:00 P.M.
Elena's shop is always ready for company. Walk in and you'll find an assortment of hats on shelves and shirts on hangers along the walls for you to peruse and dresses and vests on display to tempt you to make a custom request - for which, like the other town craftspeople, she'll charge a price for depending on what materials you'll need.
Her generic pieces - the garments you'll find already made and hanging or folded in the store - are usually inexpensive, and their stock changes often. The town gets first pickings of what she makes nearly every day for Zeke to pick up to be sold out of town. Elena will also do alterations.
Prices:
- Hat - Ranging from 500G-900G. They come in all sorts, as Elena does like making hats - berets, cowboy-style hats, top hats, bonnets...
- Shirt - Ranging from 800G-1200G. As with the hats, you'll find quite a bit of color and style variety.
- Skirt - Ranging from 900-1300G.
- Pants - Ranging from 1000-1300G.
- Neckwear (Bandanna, Scarf) - 750-900G. The material's comfortable, and Elena offers them in a good array of patterns.
- Jacket - Ranging from 1000-1500G.
- Dress - Ranging from 1500-3000G.
- Alteration - Varying, beginning at 300G.
- Custom Orders - Varying widely. Unlike Saibara, she doesn't charge a fee for not providing a plan or pattern on your own - but she will name her price and the materials that'll be involved once she works them out.
LILIA FLORIST
Lilia Florist
Owner: Lilia
Staff: Lily (Gardening Assistant)
Open: Monday through Saturday, 10:00 A.M.-4:30 P.M.
Lilia adores flowers, and every season, whatever kinds are blooming best dominate her shop - to the classiest possible extent - with vases, garlands, and every other which kind of craft. But while flowers are the only full-grown plants she sells, she keeps a healthy stock of seasonal seeds on a rack and potted tree saplings in her garden for anyone to peruse.
Prices:
- Watering Can (Iron) - 1200G.
- Seeds and Seedlings - As listed here, by seed pouch or sapling. Lilia does not sell seeds that are out of season, excluding saplings, which are all available year-round.
- Flowers - three times the seed price each. For example, a rose costs 90G. As with seeds, flowers aren't sold out of their season. Buy ten of any mix of varieties in a sitting and she'll knock off 150G and tie them into a bouquet complete with foil and a ribbon!
Help Wanted!
Hiring:
- Gardening assistants to help keep the plants and flowers behind the shop watered and tended to. Lilia will happily take on those with no knowledge of plant care and show them the ropes - amateur gardeners will receive a humble 600G a day. Those who learn well - or who already have green thumbs - will make a more respectable 1000G per day.
GREY'S ANIMAL AND FEED TRADING
Grey's Animal and Feed Trading
Owner: Grey
Open: Saturday through Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 10:00 A.M.-4:00 P.M.
Grey rolls into town in a cart every Saturday and Wednesday morning, parks next to the inn, and opens for business by ten. He'll have feed and animal care products on board in addition to pictures and prices for the kinds of animals he can sell.
Prices:
- Animals - As listed here. You may order as many birds as you like and up to two larger animals at once, and Grey will bring them with him the next time he comes to town.
- Brush - 1000G.
- Milker - 1600G.
- Shears - 1500G.
- Animal Medicine - 800G per dose. Each dose cures an animal of illness of any natural cause.
- Miracle Potion - 2300G (for Grey to provide a male animal) or 1200G (if providing your own female-male animal pair). Nudges animals into mating - Grey administers it himself at your farm so that you don't have to.
- Fodder - 20G per unit. Each unit feeds one barn animal for a day.
- Bird Feed - 10G per unit. Each unit feeds one bird for a day.
- Pet Food - 10G per unit. Each unit will feed an animal such as a dog or a pig for a day.
- Trade Assistance - If you're interested in breeding livestock, have decided you have enough sheep and need room for a few cows, or otherwise need to part with any animals you may own, discuss it with Grey and he'll take them out of town with him to help you find a worthy buyer. He can fetch you the same price he could get for any of his own animals - but will charge you a ten percent fee for his service. Therefore, if you asked Grey to help you sell a horse for 8000G, he would pocket 800G and pass 7200G on to you.
SALT & SKY FISHERY
Salt & Sky Fishery
Owner: Wes
Open: Sunday through Wednesday and Friday, 8:00 A.M.-4:00 P.M.
Wes rises early for fishmongering on business days to sell the catches of the previous evening or day off for fishing. Goddess knows he'd spend even more time out on his skiff were it not for the fact that someone needs to man the store!
Prices:
- Fishing Rod (Iron) - 1500G.
- Fish - Varying, ordinarily ranging from 200G (for a batch of small seafood such as prawns or sardines) to 1200G (big game fish). Wes also does not sell varieties that are out of season.
- Fishing Trip - 1000G a trip. Express interest in going fishing out at sea with Wes, hand him your 1000G, and bring your own equipment to the fishery at the agreed-upon meeting time the next Thursday or Saturday for a ride on his boat. This is the best way to catch the kinds of fish a person can brag about - tuna, dorado, and even sharks and marlins.
Help Wanted!
Hiring:
- Clerk to work in the store from opening to closing, although days are negotiable. Every day that an employee works will be another day for Wes to spend obtaining fish to sell in and ship out of town, and so he's willing to pay well - 1200G per day and, if desired, boarding; Wes has a spare futon in his home behind the store area that he'd be willing to have occupied.
BOWER VILLAGE LIBRARY
Bower Village Library
Owner: Mary
Open: Monday through Saturday, 10:00 A.M.-5:00 P.M.
The town library is one of its bigger buildings, in fact just about the size of Town Hall. Mary wouldn't have it any other way - she's been having it built up and out over the years to keep it excellently-stocked. In the front of the ground floor is the librarian's desk; behind that are basic educational and reference books. A doorway leads to fiction and novels, including a few of Mary's own works. The library's upstairs holds more nonfiction, for more specific interests and topics of curiosity - for example, while the books on the ground floor may give you basic know-how on animal care or gardening, if you're curious about mythology, botany, or Rune, for example, you may find information on the second floor.
The books listed below are far from the only ones in the building - just notable examples of what can be found.
Also, naturally, the contents of all of Mary's books can't be described here. If you'd like to your character to discover something interesting or useful in the library's inventory (for example, perhaps something will stand out to them in a cookbook, or reading up on Cape Beryl's history will reveal a seemingly insightful bit of information on the Goddess or a festival), by all means comment with a request!
Inventory:
- A Guide to Domestic Plants - Basic information on crops, trees, and flowers, including seasonality, growth time, etc.
- The Happy Ranch - A guide to general animal husbandry and the care of common domestic animals from livestock and poultry to pets. Animals' individual entries cover points such as care and feeding, suggested treats, dog training tips, etc. The book overall also includes sections on recognizing sickness and breeding via Miracle Potion.
- Exploring Stone: A Guide to Minerals, Metals, and Gems - Not only does this guide present entries on identifying, finding, and mining the kinds of stones and minerals that can be found in Mt. Throne, it provides a respectably detailed guide to mining equipment and safety protocol and hazards in spelunking and mining.
- A Seasonal Field Guide - A guide to foraging from season to season.
- Introduction to Blacksmithing - Illustrated and includes information on working materials from glass to copper to adamantite to basic Rune, as well as blueprints and procedures for basic items such as plain daggers, hammers, and pieces of jewelry.
- The Rules of Cooking - A beginner cook's book that is one part how-to, with basic rules, guidelines, and elements of technique - difference between stirring and folding, use this heat level for that, sauté aromatics first, etcetera - and one part recipe book, mostly with basic and undemanding recipes. If you're the sort who claims they can't even boil pasta, this book may help you feed yourself better.
- Ever Fine: A Cookbook by Pierre de Sainte-Coquille - Pierre collected some of his most interesting recipes and had them bound into a one-of-a-kind book just for enjoyment of Bower Village that includes recipes for dishes of every category. All of them are exceptional - but more of them require complicated steps, unusual ingredients, and special equipment than not (do what with the wild garlic and the mackerel in the aging pot, now?), and don't think Pierre won't recognize his own recipes if you try to take a shortcut to win the autumn cooking contest.
- The Cape at the Throne of the King - A history of Cape Beryl and Bower Village, including myths, customs, and information of its festivals. You may notice that it starts to read slightly differently two-thirds of the way through; Mary edited the most recent version herself.
- The Wonder of Rune - An overview of Rune-based magical research history and use, including how and from where it can be distilled and its uses, with suggestions of spells, simple potion recipes, and so on.
- Creatures of Rune: Cape Beryl - A guide to the monsters and wild animals on the Cape, with descriptions of field-guide information such as activity and behaviors, natural weapons, eating habits, etc.
ZEKE'S SHIPPING AND DELIVERY
Owner: Zeke
Open: Every day, 2:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M.
Anything that Cape Beryl needs that it doesn't produce, Zeke sets out to buy and bring home; anything that it produces that it doesn't need, he brings out to find a buyer for. The bulk of the exports he carts out of town are shipments of fish courtesy of Wes and crafts such as those by Elena and Louis; into town, he brings extra groceries, Rune for Trent's potion-making experiments - anything else demanded or ordered.
If you have anything you'd like to sell or order, Zeke will gladly make an arrangement with you with a meeting at his office in Town Hall.
